Booking and joining a call

What customers should expect right after booking and before the call starts.

What happens after I book a call?

After you book, your session appears in Bookings so you can track status and timing. You will also get a confirmation email with your join link.

How do I join my call?

Use the join link from your confirmation email, or open your Bookings page and join from your booking details at call time.

Will I get a confirmation email?

Yes. Both the user and expert will get a booking confirmation email, where the expert will need to accept/decline. After a booking is accepted, we will send a confirmation email that includes your call details and join link as well as an .ics calendar link to save to your device.

Should I join early?

Yes—joining about 90 seconds early is recommended so your device, browser, and connection are ready before the call begins.

Can I end the call early?

Yes. Customers can choose to end the call early at any time.

Can the expert end the call early?

No. Customers have the early-end control in the call interface; experts do not have that same early-end control.

Can I share my screen?

Yes—screen sharing is available on desktop. Screen sharing is not available on mobile.

How does booking work?

Customers choose an available time and submit a booking request with a topic. Experts review the request and can accept or decline. If accepted, the booking is confirmed and both sides can access call details.

What happens after a booking is accepted?

After acceptance, the booking moves into a confirmed status and appears in Bookings for both participants. You can use Bookings to track the status, timing, and related details before and after the call.

Payments, cancellations, and call outcomes

Our policy basics and payment records FAQ.

Can bookings be canceled?

Yes. ExpertLive applies a single 1-hour cancellation window: if the expert cancels at any time, the customer gets a full refund/auth release; if the customer cancels 60+ minutes before start, the customer gets a full refund/auth release; if the customer cancels under 60 minutes before start or after start, the booking is non-refundable and charged in full.

What happens if someone misses the call?

If the customer no-shows, the booking is non-refundable and charged in full. If the expert no-shows (including failing to join within first minutues of the call), the customer gets a full refund/auth release. If both join, normal post-call settlement and billing rules apply.

How do refunds work?

Our cancellation and refund policy is designed to respect experts’ reserved time while giving customers a clear, predictable standard they can rely on. Customers receive a full refund (or authorization release) if they cancel at least 60 minutes before the scheduled start, and they also receive a full refund (or authorization release) if an expert cancels or does not show up. If a customer cancels less than 60 minutes before the scheduled start, cancels after the scheduled start, or does not show up, the booking is non-refundable and may be charged in full. We do not apply partial cancellation fees.

How do customers view receipts or payment details?

Go to Bookings and open a completed or refunded booking to view available payment details and receipt information.

Should I move communication or payment off-platform?

Please keep communication, scheduling, and payment on ExpertLive. It improves trust, supportability, privacy, and payment clarity for both customers and experts. Unless ExpertLive explicitly allows otherwise for a specific workflow, avoid moving sessions or payments off-platform.

What if I can’t make a call I accepted?

If you can no longer attend an accepted booking, cancel as soon as possible from your booking details or booking communications. If timing or payment issues are involved, contact Support so the team can review next steps.

Becoming an expert

How to set up, manage, and improve your expert profile.

How do I become an expert?

Create an account, then go to Become an Expert to set up your expert profile, rates, and weekly availability. Submit your profile for review. Once approved, your profile can appear in the directory. To start taking bookings, you’ll also need to complete payout setup.

Do experts need to be approved?

Yes. New expert profiles are reviewed before they go live in the directory. Normal edits to an already approved profile usually do not require another review.

Why is my expert profile not live yet?

The most common reason is that your profile is still under review or has not yet been approved. If you are approved but still have booking limitations, check whether your payout setup is complete.

How do I manage my availability?

Use the Become an Expert page to set your weekly availability windows and update them anytime. Customers can only request times that fit your configured schedule.

Can I stop receiving bookings without closing my account?

Yes. Turn off Available for bookings in your expert settings. This hides your expert profile from new bookings while keeping your account and history.

How do I edit my expert profile?

Open Account and select Edit Profile. You can update your headline, bio, topics, rates, and other profile details there.

How do I make money as an expert on ExpertLive?

ExpertLive is a platform for paid video calls with experts. You create a profile, set your call rates and availability, and customers book time for practical help. Completed billable calls generate earnings that are paid to your connected Stripe account.

Do I need a social media following or audience to get booked?

No. You do not need to build an audience, become an influencer, or create content to use ExpertLive. Customers book experts based on clear profiles, practical experience, and fit for the problem they want to solve.

Do I have to commit to a fixed schedule as an expert?

No. You control your own availability and can update it anytime. ExpertLive is designed for flexible expert side income, so you can offer bookable expertise only when it works for you.

What if no one books me?

If you are not booked right away, that is okay. You can improve your chances over time by strengthening your profile, clearly explaining the problems you help solve, and keeping your availability up to date. You can also share your ExpertLive profile with your network or on social media if you want to help more people discover your expertise. There is no rigid schedule requirement, so your profile can stay available for future opportunities while you continue with your normal work or retirement plans.

Is ExpertLive a good fit for retired or semi-retired professionals?

Yes. Many strong expert profiles come from retired professionals, semi-retired operators, former business owners, consultants, and industry specialists. If you have practical real-world knowledge, ExpertLive gives you a simple way to share knowledge online through short paid advice calls.

What kinds of expertise can I offer on ExpertLive?

You can offer guidance in business, career, operations, trades, technical fields, and other niche areas where experience helps people make better decisions. The best profiles clearly explain what problems you help solve and who you typically help.

Do I need to be tech-savvy to use ExpertLive?

Expert payouts and account setup

Payout onboarding, earnings timing, and where experts manage payment details.

Why do I need to complete Stripe onboarding?

Payout setup is required before you can accept or confirm bookings, enable instant bookings, and receive payment for completed sessions. During the Stripe onboarding, you will be required to enter either your bank account information or use a debit card as the way to recieve payments. ExpertLive does not control/have access to/retain any of your personal billing information; this is all done through Stripe via connected account setup.

How do I complete Stripe onboarding?

After your expert profile is approved, you will see a banner prompting you to complete Stripe onboarding. Once approved, your profile can appear in the directory even if payout setup is still in progress. Customers can still send you booking requests, but you cannot accept or confirm them until Stripe setup complete. Instant bookings also stay disabled until Stripe setup is complete. During payout onboarding, you may choose either an individual setup or a business setup via the Stripe dashboard. Even if you are onboarding as an individual, Stripe may still ask for business or professional details—provide a brief, accurate description of your services (for example: Consulting, Coaching, or Tutoring). Always enter truthful identity, tax, and payout information so Stripe can verify and enable payouts. Stripe will also provide your 1099 and tax docs at year end.

When do experts get paid?

For completed billable calls, ExpertLive first finalizes settlement and captures the customer charge. Earnings are then sent to the expert’s connected Stripe account. Exact payout timing is controlled by Stripe’s payout schedule and any processor compliance or risk checks, typically 4 business days.

Where can experts view payment details or payouts?

Experts can view earnings and payment details in Payments. Customers can review paid or refunded booking payment details from Bookings, including receipts and related records when available.

Why does Stripe ask for business details if I’m not a company?

Stripe uses a shared onboarding flow for many types of sellers and service providers. Because of that, individuals may still be asked for a short business or professional description of the services they provide. This helps Stripe set up payouts, tax reporting, and compliance requirements.

If you would like help arranging an NDA before a call, contact support and we can help facilitate that process while maintaining each party’s privacy.
